In fact, the history of laptop batteries is an exciting one. They have been updated and upgraded a lot, but they still have a long way to go to perfection. The manufacture of laptop batteries has changed since then. Lighter nickel cadmium batteries (NiCd) superseded lead acid based ones. Their main drawback was that they had the so-called memory defect. If not discharged to the full, the battery remembered it and its output was lower.
When lithium ion batteries (LiON) entered the market, users saw a great progress in laptop batteries manufacture. These batteries are much lighter than other laptop batteries and have no memory effect. They are installed in technically advanced laptops.
Even though LiON laptop batteries run non-stop for several hours, they require re-charging. Since more and more people get laptops every year, the demand for longer lasting batteries is ever raising. Certainly, there will be improvements until batteries that do not require re-charging are produced. Regardless of the purpose you turn on your portable PC for, you know that you require a battery with a longer life. You need to know that you can rely on the battery when you need your laptop most of all. |
