The term "Psychiatry" was introduced by Doctor J.C. Reil from Germany at the beginning of the XIX century. Psychiatry is a science that studies and treats mental illnesses. Many mental illnesses are treated by a professional. Mental health professionals work across the world. Psychiatrists help mentally ill people to handle depression, treat sleeplessness etc. There are a lot of mental illnesses and phobias that require specialist medical aid. Common mental disorders include anorexia, delusion, depression, fatigue, anxiety, confusion, erratic behavior etc. One of the commonest mental disorders now is anorexia. It begins when a person starves deliberately or eats less to become slimmer. However, starving causes a loss of appetite and serious health problems, for example infertility in women. SCHIZOPHRENIA is another severe mental disorder. It has been a challenge to Psychiatry for a long time. It is an abnormal perception of reality badly impacting on all five human senses. Hallucinations, abnormality in speech, disorganized thinking pattern, paranoia are common for schizophrenic patients. Schizophrenic people commonly suffer from severe depressions and anxiety disorders. Schizophrenics have a shorter lifespan than mentally healthy people. One of the reasons is a high rate of suicides among patients suffering from the mental disorder. Though it is not hereditary, Schizophrenia is recorded to affect family members. Drug addiction remains a common problem to be treated by psychiatrists. Social problems, for example unemployment, poverty and homelessness, are frequently recorded, too. Psychiatry handles mental illnesses that are brought on chemical imbalances in the brain. The way people think, their beliefs, their culture and experience, life situations and many other things form their psyche which can be earnestly challenged because of circumstances. A professional through a psychiatric aid and prescription medicine try to renew the balance in the brain. This process is time-consuming and requires a lot of effort.
