Conceiving is often not as easy as it seems to be. While there are numerous things you can do to help raise your chances of pregnancy, such as bettering your health and everyday routines or experimenting with an alternative therapy, such as aromatherapy, a natural aphrodisiac and natural cures, not everyone is successful. Handling sterility issues can be difficult for any couple. The causes of sterility, though, can vary. Only 30% of cases are brought on by female factors. In another 30% of cases, infertility is due to the male. The remaining 40% of cases are brought on by a mix of male and female factors or by unknown factors. A large number of couples that have difficulty conceiving naturally give preference to various fertility treatments to raise their chances of conceiving. One of the most popular medications taken to raise fertility is Clomid. Also known as clomiphene citrate, the medication is sold under the brand names Clomid and Serophene. Clomid works by stimulating a woman's ovaries to mature an increased number of follicles every month. Because Clomid raises the number of mature follicles in the ovaries, the medication also increases the likelihood of ovulation and conception. Clomid works by stimulating diverse nerve endings in the body that regulate hormone production and secretion. In particular, Clomid works by increasing the amount of three hormones involved in the ovulation process, including gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). The drug tricks the body into believing that it has low levels of estrogen. As a result, the brain starts to secrete increased levels of GnRH, which, in turn, stimulates the release of FSH and LH. These hormones then trigger the ovaries to start to mature more follicles. Clomid is an oral therapy administered on specific days of the menstrual cycle. Mostly, Clomid side effects are moderate and not particularly troublesome. Yet, at high dosages patients may experience mood swings, sickness and vomiting, breast tenderness, splitting headaches, fatigue. In general, Clomid is a very efficient medication for the majority of females dealing with ovulatory disorder. 70% - 90% of females taking the drug are reported to begin to ovulate within the first 3 cycles. Additionally, 40% of couples become pregnant during the first three menstrual cycles.
