The medical science that studies and treats is called Psychiatry. The term was first coined by Johann Christian Reil in 1808. A lot of mental disorders are treated by a professional. Mental health professionals work all over the world. Psychiatrists help mentally ill people to come out of depression, treat sleep disorders etc. There are a lot of mental illnesses and phobias that require specialist medical treatment. Common mental disorders include anorexia, delusion, depression, tiredness, anxiety, confusion, erratic behaviour etc. ANOREXIA is a very common mental disorder, especially in young females. It begins when a person, usually a young girl stops eating or consumes less to lose weight. Eventually, starving causes a compete loss of appetite and adverse health problems, for example infertility in females. Schizophrenia is another severe mental disorder. Psychiatrists have been studying it for a long time. It is an abnormal perception of reality affecting all five senses. Hallucinations, abnormal speech, unarranged thinking pattern, paranoia are common behavioral patterns in schizophrenic patients. People with schizophrenia commonly suffer from severe depressions and anxiety disorders. Schizophrenics have a much shorter lifespan than mentally healthy people. One of the reasons is a high rate of suicides among schizophrenics. Though it is not passed from a parent to a child, Schizophrenia tends to affect family members. Alcohol addiction remains a common problem that requires specialist aid. Social problems, for instance unemployment, poverty and homelessness, are often recorded, too. Psychiatry deals with mental disorders that are resulted from chemical imbalances in the brain. The way people think, percept the reality, their beliefs and a lot of other things form their psyche that may be severely challenged because of circumstances. A psychiatrist is to renew the affected balance through a specialist aid and prescription medicine. It requires a lot of effort and time to recover. Still, in some cases psychiatrists cannot do anything to help a patient.
