| Emo boys and gals have always tried to be unique in their own special way, and their clothes and accessories have been the most important part of their image. Feeling outcasts of society, emo people hate conformity. Here are few useful tips on how to look emo. However, one should remember that following emo style just because it helps you look cute is NOT ok. Clothes should be a celebration of your personality.
A real emo can be easily be recoznized by the Emo hairdo, which normally is straightened dyed hair (usually black, but it can also be white, brown, purple etc.) often in combination with bright colors (vibrant pink, green, blue or red), a long fringe brushed to one side of the face or over one or both eyes. Bob-cuts, layers and uneven hair are considered to be very emo too. The most significant thing is to make yourself conspicious. Very girlish hair bands, bandanas, ribbons add to emo look as well.
Black horn-rimmed eyeglasses, usually very thick, are also an important characteristic of emo style. Emo gals, however, can have more freedom with colours and choose dark shades of red, brown or blue.
The key term to dressing emo is "very tight". Emo clothing is often described as tight emo jeans (drainpipes or skinnies) on boys and girls alike. Jeans are worn with a double belt. One belt is normally of common design and the other one is decorated with clinchers and iron strips. Studs on the belts and large belt buckles are also popular. Dresses and skirts can be worn by gals if properly paired with converse and leg warmers.
Extra narrow emo t-shirts are often adorned with the name of music bands or very common emo symbols such as the bleeding heart, stars and the skull. Vintage or vintage-looking shirts with images of animated heroes or rock musicians are also very popular. The key here is originality, or at least the illusion of it. Again, the t-shirt or a slander jacket should be very tight, up to 2 sizes smaller.
For looking emo, black eye liner and other dark make-up are important. Keep in mind, there is never too little black eye liner, shades, and black mascara. A little brightly colored eye liner can also be used together with the black eyeliner.
Emo shoes make the emo (look complete. The most popular emo shoes are Converses or Vans. But many other shoes, as long as they are black with pink laces, can also be made look emo. The most popular design is tennis footwear of conversion or vanguard style. To look more emo, shoes can be decorated with whiteout pen/highlighter/permanent marker.
Trying to obtain the emo look, make sure you are not pretending to be someone you are not. It can be insulting for devoted emo persons. |
