Finding a person with whom you wish to be in a committed relationship is hard, but making the relationship last may be even more difficult. There are no conflict-free relationships. The way in which we deal with these conflict situations will be the determinants of our personalities. Some couples will deal with harder challenges and this causes them to grow strong together or it forces them to break off. Then there are the families that face large conflicts that happen because of children becoming teenagers. No matter what, conflict is unavoidable and we all need to face it sooner or later. Learning to resolve conflicts and working on the relationship using diverse tactics is important to save the relationship. Evolutionary psychologists examined "mate retention tactics" in American men and ladies and found these tactics include being overly watchful and threatening violence. Different gender strategies to save relationships were found out. To assess features admired in partners and how they save relationships, researchers of the University of Texas conducted a survey of 214 married people. Men, more than ladies, admitted that they exploited their social standing and financial success as a strategy to arouse interest in them, said the authors. Men also admitted to keep their wives interested by promising changes and threatening sexual betrayal. Ladies were also more likely than men to take care of their physical appearance, thus keeping men interested. With regard to infidelity, it was discovered that if a husband suspected that his wife was having an affair, he would try and keep his wife from public activities, threaten punishment and criticize other men. Interestingly, ladies who suspected that their husbands were unfaithful did not work on the relationship any harder than those without suspicions. Unfortunately, some male tactics involved behaviors that are identified as early indicators of the physical abuse of wives, said the authors. For instance, in an earlier survey, 72% of ladies requiring medical attention reported that their husbands limited their contact with family members and friends, insisted on knowing the ladies' whereabouts and insulted women.
